FALNI was delighted to learn that Adrianne Brown, a regular attendee at Forum events, is the newly elected Chair of North Down and Ards U3A.
When interviewed by the County Down Spectator Adrianne said:
One of the first things I will be doing with the Forum for Adult Learning Northern Ireland is to ensure lifelong learning is accepted. AONTAS is Ireland’s adult learning organisation and I wish we had something similar. We do hope to do much more and we would like to have Government backing.
There are currently 25 different U3As in Northern Ireland with around 6000 members.
We wish Adrianne well in her tenure as Chair and look forward to working with her and other members of the U3A in the future.
There is to be a consultation for a new Active Ageing Strategy and we would encourage all members when this comes out to take the opportunity to advocate for improved and expanded provision of learning opportunities for older people.
